Post Graduate Department of Biotechnology Khalsa College Amritsar organized a one day educational tour at Indo-Israel Centre of Excellence for vegetables (Research Institute), Kartarpur, Jalandhar, on February 20, 2020. All the students of M.Sc. Biotechnology IVth and B.Sc Biotechnology VIth semester participated in the trip. Dr. Jaspreet Singh, Assistant Professor, PG Department of Biotechnology (In charge tour and Industrial trainings) was the planner and arranger of the trip. Prof. Priya of Biotechnology Department also joined the same.
Indo-Israel Centre of Excellence for vegetables (CEV) is a non-profit Punjab government organization. As the name indicate CEV project is a joint venture of both nations ie. India & Israel. Israel is a Jews country, geographically situated in the Middle East, on the bank of Mediterranean Sea, sharing its borders with Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Egypt. Israel is a water deficient state, still flourish in the crop productivity. Being a founder of drip irrigation technology, Israel is the world’s leader in water conservation. As a consortium, CEV works in the field of plant Biotechnology and breeding to develop the crop varieties that need less water for growth (to cope and manage the water crisis in Punjab). Dr. Daljit Singh Gill (Project Officer - CEV) interacted with the students and gave a lecture, elaborating the research activities and developments taking place in the centre. Participant students inspired and learnt a lot by observing the applied aspect of the research theories and methodologies studied in their syllabi. Respected Principal Dr. Mehal Singh appreciated the event and also stressed upon the need of such activities in the field of Science & Technology. Overall, the Educational tour happened to be a highly successful event. At last but not the least, tour In-charge and participants are highly thankful to Dr. Daljit Singh Gill from CEV and Principal Dr. Mehal Singh for their cooperation and advice.
