The department organized an educational trip of B.Sc. and M.Sc. Biotechnology students on 16/11/2021 to Sukhjit Starch and Chemicals Limited, Phagwara. Dr.Balwinder Singh and Dr. Madhavi had planned and organized the trip. The Sukhjit Starch and Chemicals Limited is engaged in manufacturing edible maize starch, dextrin, dextrose monohydrate (glucose), anhydrous dextrose, sorbitol and various other by-products from maize. These products are used by pharmaceutical, food, textile and paper industries. Students were introduced to the functioning of different units of the industry such as sampling, loading, manufacturing, packaging units and quality assurance laboratories. During this trip, students gained the practical knowledge about development of dextrose monohydrate, anhydrous dextrose, sorbitol and starch for maize.
