Zoological Society organized an Educational Tour to Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Science University, Ludhiana. To have a practical approach towards the subject Applied Zoology-II (Vertebrates), the students of M.Sc. Zoology (Sem-III) and B.Sc. (Medical Sem. V) visited various animal rearing facilities at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Science University, Ludhiana. The visit was conducted on November, 27-28, 2023 under the supervision of Dr. Jasjit Kaur Randhawa (HOD), Dr. Amandeep Singh, Dr. Zorawar Singh and Prof. Randeep Singh.
On the first day, students visited Cattle & Buffalo Breeding Farm, Poultry Research Farm and College of Fisheries. Students were also taken to the hydroponic unit adjoining to the fisheries farm where the waste water of fisheries farm was being utilized to grow vegetables. At each farm, the students were accompanied by the research professionals from the university who provided a thorough knowledge of the setup and operational aspects. The research professionals also answered to the queries of the students to set up their own farms as a part of entrepreneurship venture.
On the second Day, the students visited Mohendra Chaudhary Zoological Park, Chhatbir, Zirakpur (Punjab). The field trip aimed to provide students with meaningful learning experiences and to enrich the curriculum hence making connections to what students are learning in classroom. The students witnessed around 117 species of animals including mammals, reptiles and birds. Students got an opportunity to learn about birds of terrestrial and aquatic Eco system of not only North India but also from the steamy rainforest of South India during a fun walk inside a protected walkway of Walk-In-Aviary. A ride inside the lion safari was also the memorable experience for the students.
