Career Counseling Programme for commerce students in collaboration with ICAI Amritsar Branch of NIRC on 27.9.2024

 

The P.G. Department of Commerce & Business Administration, Khalsa College Amritsar organized the Career Counseling Programme for commerce students in collaboration with ICAI Amritsar Branch of NIRC on 27.9.2024 at 11.00AM in Seminar Hall for all the students of the department (both UG & PG). This event was planned and executed under the supervision of Principal Dr. Mehal Singh {Programme Chairman), and Dr. A..K.  Kahlon (Programme Director) and Dr. Ajay Sehgal (Programme Co-ordinator). The Resource Person of this Programme was Ms. Triveni Sehgal, Chartered Accountant.

 

The Resource person addressed the students regarding the ample career opportunities available for the commerce students as a chartered accountant. She highlighted that a chartered accountant is the only profession which gives money, reputation and status at an early age..This profession primarily takes care of taxation, accounting, and other commercial matters related to any business. Some of the chartered accountancy jobs mainly include handling income tax returns, reviewing financial records, preparing financial reports, auditing the financial practices of an organisation, providing financial advice to an individual or a business firm, and so on. Therefore, the main objective of any firm to hire a chartered accountant is to minimise errors and threats to their finances and to maximise the chances of profit-making. She accentuated on the career prospects of a Chartered Accountant and the different dimensions of chartered accountancy jobs and areas of employment such as Business Enterprises, Public/ Private Practice, Government Organisations, Banking and Insurance Sectors, Law firms also need financial services and advice, Civil Services such asthe railways, defence and other government sectors.

Dr. Mehal Singh, Principal fortified the students by saying that “When you gain confidence in yourself, dreams come true.” The counsellors try to make your path clear by discarding all your confusion. This is how a career counsellor helps you to make plans in different fields.

Dr. A..K.  Kahlon invigorated that the career opportunities are immense for commerce students. Lack of knowledge is the only thing dragging them from exploring a career path. Career counsellors can give them resources for researching about various career options. They help them to identify the right tools and parameters in deciding a profession leaving less stress to the students as well as the parents.

Dr.Ajay Sehgal (Programme Co-ordinator) highlighted the main object of this Career Counselling Programme that  the primary  objective ofcareer counselling is to help students align their skills, interests, and aspirations with suitable career options, thereby maximizing their potential for success and fulfilment. Dr. Manisha Behal conducted the stage and presented vote of thanks. Prof. Meenu Chopra took over the charge of broadcasting of the event. Around 150 students participated in this programme.

On this occasion Dr. Sawraj Kaur, Dr.Deepak Devgan, Dr. Poonam Sharma and other faculty members were present.
