The P.G Department of Agriculture, Khalsa College Amritsar, organized a two day UGC-sponsored workshop on “Research Methodology in Agricultural Science” on 6 and 7 March, under the CPE-Phase III scheme.
The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Mehal Singh, Principal, Khalsa College. He addressed the gathering and appreciated the organizers of the department for initiating Faculty Enrichment Programme. He encouraged the faculty to keep themselves updated with latest statistical tools for better understanding of research methodology for the growth of the students as well as the institute.
Dr. Randeep Kaur, head of the department, welcomed the guests and briefed the participants with the objective of the workshop. She suggested that a researcher needs to design the right methodology to arrive at conclusive inferences focusing on the fundamental understanding of statistical analysis.
Four technical sessions were conducted by field expertise, Dr. A.K. Thukral and Dr. A.S. Sethi. Dr. Thukral, Professor Emeritus, Department of Botanical and Environmental Sciences, Guru Nanak Dev University is a Prof. P.N. Mehra Senior Scientist and Vijay Rattan awardee. He acquainted the participants with formulation of research problems, testing of hypothesis and selection of appropriate statistical methods for analyzing scientific data. Dr. Sethi, Former Dean-cum-Senior Professor, Punjab School of Economics, Guru Nanak Dev University, delivered lectures on basic management of data using different statistical softwares, correlation and regression analysis and testing significance of data. Presently he is extending statistical consultancy/research methodology advisement to the researchers from various streams.
The workshop was attended by 150 faculty members from various streams and they were stimulated with extensive and diverse research methods and techniques used in high quality research. The technical sessions were concluded by S. Gurdev Singh, Dean Faculty of Agriculture, with a formal vote of thanks on the last day of the workshop.
