The Department of Sociology, Khalsa College, Amritsar organized a guest lecture on
“International Migration from Punjab: Trends and Concerns on 5 th April, 2023 at 11:00
a.m. in the seminar hall of college. It was executed by Dr. Jasdeep Kaur under the guidance of
Principal Dr. Mehal Singh and Dean of Arts and Humanities Prof. Jaspreet Kaur. Dr. Gurpreet
Bal, Professor (Retd), Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar was the key speaker to deliver
her best knowledge pertaining to international migration from Punjab.
The seminar began with Shabad Gayan followed by welcoming the guest speaker with a
plant as a token of respect. After that Dr. Gurpreet Bal, the guest speaker enlightened
students with the history of migration especially concerning Punjabis and mentioned the
three phases in which migration happened from Punjab. Along with that she discussed the
reasons and changing dynamics of youth migration happening currently.
At last, an interactive session was held where the guest speaker responded to queries by
students. Faculty members Dr. Sukhbir Singh (Incharge, Department of Sociology), Dr.
Bharti Jasrotia (Sociology), Dr. Jashandeep Kaur (Psychology) and Prof. Inderjeet Kaur
(Geography) and students from different departments were also present in the seminar hall
to attend this guest lecture.
