Post Graduate Department of Physics, Khalsa College Amritsar celebrated 5 thNational conference on Current Advances in Physical Sciences CAPS-2019 on February 26, 2019. About 200 participants from different institutes of the region had participated in the celebration. In this conference, Dr Manish Dev Sharma from Panjab University Chandigarh delivered key note adress on the topic “ Generations to embedded systems” in which he discussed in detail the journey of electronics starting from old days with electromechanically operated telephone systems to present time of smart phones using embedded systems. The discussion included the working of microcontroller , microprocessor and display systems using LEDs. The speaker pointed out the economical importance of these systems as they are light in weight, slimmer and less power consuming. The next lecture was delivered by Dr. BirBikram Singh from Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib on the topic of “ Advances in the study of Atomic Nucleus”. He correlated the discovery of radioactivity to the present day research going on in nuclear laboratories . He pointed out the importance of these developments for better understanding the novel phenomena related to nucleo synthesis and astrophysical processes.The relevance of the on going research in field of energy, medicine and industry was emphasised. The lectures were followed by oral and Poster presentation on the recent research going on in the field of physical sciences.
Principal Dr. Mehal Singh welcomed the invited speakers, addressed the delegates and emphasised the need of such activities. . He encouraged the students to participate in such events which make them aware of the recent developments.
Dr. Havinder Kaur (HOD Physics) welcomed the participants and presented the theme of conference. Dr. Iqbal Singh, Organising Secretary of the event introduced Dr. Manish Dev Sharma and Dr. BirBikram Singh and briefly discussed their academic
achievements .
Dr. Taminder Singh presented vote of thanks to Dr. Manish Dev Sharma and Dr. BirBikram Singh and appreciated them for sparing their time to enrich students with recent techniques and developments in science. Dr. M.S Batra, Dean Sciences applauded the organizing team for making the event successful.
