English Literary Society, run by the Post Graduate Department of English of Khalsa College Amritsar, organized a Poetry Recitation and Western Song Competition on February 15, 2019.
In the Welcome speech Nitish Sharma, Vice-President of English Literary Society welcomed the chief guest Prof. Sukhmeen Bedi (Head), Judges Prof. Anupam Sandhu & Prof. Zorawar Singh (Department of Zoology) and all the faculty members of English Department and students, who graced the occasion. He further informed that year by year, English Literary Society is breaking barriers and this year also, they are able to achieve a greater height. Along with it, he stated ‘society has a great vision and mission to bring a generation of eloquent speakers with the confidence to speak in Public’.
The event started with shabad by Jashanpreet Kaur of B.A.(Hons.) English Sem-II. Poetry Recitation was the first event in which 17 students participated from the various departments. In this competition, Riya Handa B.A (Hons.) English Sem-IV was declared first while Sahil Sharma B.A (Hons.) English Sem-IV stood Second. Third Prize was awarded to Gunveen Kaur B.Com (Hons.) Sem-II.
Western Song Competition was the second on the roll. 12 students participated in this Competition, from various department. Kajal B.Sc (Med) Sem-VI, won the competition with first Prize. Second Prize was awarded to two students Amitoj Singh (B.sc Agri.) Sem-VIII) and Kamal Bhardwaj (B.A Sem-IV). Third Prize was also awarded to two students Suhana (B.A S.S Sem-II) and Ranveer Singh (B.A Hons. English Sem-II). There was also a consolation Prize for Prerna (B.A Hons English Sem-VI).
