The Post Graduate Department of English, Khalsa College Amritsar held an extension lecture on Acts of Reading Literature on 20.10.2023

October 20, 2023, The Post Graduate Department of English, Khalsa College Amritsar held an extension lecture on ‘Acts of ReadingLiterature '. Prof.( Dr.) Gurupdesh Singh, an eminent scholar and Former Professor and Head of English Department, GNDU, Amritsar graced the occasion as the resource person. Dr. Mehal Singh the principal of the College presided the occasion as the Chief Guest.

            The seminar commenced with the recitation of College Shabad. The guests were welcomed by Prof. Supninderjeet Kaur, Head of the department while Prof. Vijay Bernard introduced the guest to the audience. Dr. Mehal Singh in his address emphasized on the need of literature for the betterment of the society. He also mentioned the different levels of meaning hidden in a literary text.

            Dr. Gurpdesh Singh in his lecture threw light on various types of texts. He discussed how literary texts are different than the other discourses; how they contain text within a texts and how meaning can be deduced from the text by examining the various linguistic and contextual features.

            Dr. Sawant Singh Manto presented the vote of thanks. He also expressed his  gratitude to teachers and students for their hard work to make the event successful.
