P.G. Department of Chemistry organised Invited Talk by Dr Nasarul Islam, HOD, HKM Govt Degree College, Kashmir on the title From desktop to Benchtop

The invited online talk by Dr Nasarul Islam, Head of the Department, HKM Govt Degree College,
Bandipora Kashmir was organized by Department of Chemistry, Khalsa College Amritsar on
27/07/2021. The welcome addressed was given by HOD, Dr Randhir Singh. The title of the talk was
“From desktop to Benchtop: Developing computational tools for organic and inorganic and physical
chemistry”. Their talk focused on accurately applying computational chemistry techniques to
everyday chemistry problems. Dr Nasarul provided nonmathematical explanations of advanced topics
in computational chemistry.
His talk Focused on when and how to apply different computational techniques. They also showed the
connection of computational chemistry to biochemical systems and polymers. In addition to this, they
also described how the choice of methods of software affects requirements for computer memory and
processing time. They also showed the interest of their research group. Presently, their research group
is working on electronic structure and spectral properties of chiro-optic systems, energy storage and
conversion systems, structure-activity relationships and microscopic structure-property relationship
for applications based on transport, optical, magnetic and electrical behaviour of condensed systems.
A valedictory function was held at the end of seminar. HOD chemistry thanked all the Professors and
students for their valuable cooperation in making this seminar a grand success.
