INVITED TALK ON DRUG DISCOVERY BY DR. PALWINDER SINGH
The Dunnicliff chemistry Society and P.G. Department of chemistry, Khalsa College, Amritsar organized a seminar on “Design and development of new drug molecules: an interdisciplinary approach” on 29th September, 2022. The talk was well organized by Dr. Hardeep Kaur along with Dr. Kirandeep Kaur, Incharge, Dunnicliff Society.
The seminar started with ShabadGayan by college students. Dr. T.S. Bhatia, Vice principal extended a warm floral welcome to the guest speaker, DrPalwinder Singh, professor, Department of chemistry, GNDU. A welcome note and Dr. Palwinder’s citation was read by Dr. AmitAnand. Dr. B.K. Randhawa, Head, PG Department of Chemistry Khalsa College also welcomed Dr. Palwinder with her nice words. The lecture was initiated by stressing upon the need to discover new drugs around the globe with its various job opportunities and success rate, the faculty members encouraged students to actively participate in such an informative lecture. DrPalwinder Singh not only put forward the route to discover new drugs but also enlighten the young minds on the issues and challenges one would face on the route. He not only eliminated students about the ancient approach to drug discovery where it would take nearly 10 years for a new drug to be launched in the market but also informed about the modern approach such as molecular modelling and virtual screening.At the last, Dr. Kultar Singh thanked the speaker for sharing his research and knowledge at common front.
Another major part of the lecture was covered in motivating students to join the research field by citing numerous case studies and sharing their results too. Students of masters and bachelors classes of Department of Chemistry were benefitted by this event.
