Khalsa College, Amritsar through its Post Graduate department of Chemistry, organized an invited talk on “Development of Antidiabetic Agents using Molecular Hybridization Approach" byDr. Parvesh Singh, Associate Professor, University of KwaZulu-Natal, Durban, South Africa on March 14th, 2024, in the seminar hall of the college. The lecture began by reciting college shabad followed by presidential address by Dr. Mehal Singh, Principal of the college. Dr. Mehal Singh welcomed the resource person and also gave a brief glimpse of the glorious history of Khalsa College. He emphasized the need to pursue research along with the academic growth. Dr. Amit Anand, Head, Department of Chemistry, highlighted the importance of organic research for development of novel pharmacophores having therapeutic potential. He also added that the topic of the lecture was extremely relevant in context with the advancements needed in the field of drug research. Dr. Taminder Singh, Dean Academic Affairs of the college passed a vote of thanks to the speaker for sparing his valuable time to deliver his talk.
Dr. Parvesh Singh discussed various antidiabetic agents synthesized in his lab and outlined ongoing research projects which are potential drugs. He elucidated the road map required to synthesize and bio-evaluate the organic compounds by targeting the active site of various enzymes. The lecture attracted a diverse audience, including M.Sc. and B.Sc. students, who actively participated with insightful questions. The event facilitated academic exchange and inspired curiosity among students, enriching their understanding of medicinal chemistry.
