Extempore competition was organized by the Dunnicliff Chemical Society, PG Department of Chemistry, Khalsa College Amritsar, on Nov. 08, 2024 which brought together students from various classes of chemistry department to showcase their oratory skills and quick thinking. The event aimed to foster confidence, critical thinking, and articulation among participants, testing their ability to speak fluently on randomly assigned topics within a limited time. The event was inaugurated by Dr. Kirandeep Kaur, who emphasized the importance of effective communication and the role of public speaking in personal and professional growth. In her opening address, Dr. Kaur encouraged the participants to embrace spontaneity and be fearless in expressing their views, a message that resonated with both participants and the audience.
Each participant was given a topic and five minutes to prepare, followed by a three-minute speaking period. Topics ranged across various fields, including social issues, current events, and abstract ideas, requiring participants to think on their feet and respond intelligently and coherently. The topics were prepared by Dr. Aabroo, Dr. Prabhjot Kaur and Dr. Harpreet Kaur. The competition saw enthusiastic participation from students across disciplines, each bringing unique perspectives and styles. The audience was highly engaged, appreciating the diverse viewpoints and creative interpretations presented by the speakers.
The competition concluded with the judges (Dr. Sukhmeet Kaur and Dr. Gurbir Singh) announcing the winners, recognizing their excellence in both content and delivery. The inspiring talk by Dr.Amit Anand, (Head of the Department) encouraged all the students towards engaging in extracurricular activities for their overall personal growth. In his closing remarks, Dr. Anand congratulated all participants and encouraged students to continue honing their public speaking skills. The event successfully fostered a spirit of healthy competition and highlighted the importance of extemporaneous speaking in building self-confidence and public presence.
