The PG Department of History of Khalsa College organized a guest lecture on 6 November 2023 on the topic “Empire, Racism and Birth of Ghadar Movement”. The Guest Speaker was Dr. Amandeep Bal, former Professor (Retd.) and presently working as Chairperson of Jallianwala Bagh Chair, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. The function was started with College Shabad followed by welcome address of Principal Dr. Mehal Singh. Principal Sahib briefly elaborated the theme of the guest lecture. He highlighted the contribution of the Ghadar Movement in the Indian national movement. He observed that the empire builders have had the natural tendency to degrade their subjects. This type of mindset always leads to revolutionary thoughts and the Ghadar Movement was no exception. He underlined the importance of historical events in understanding the present day revolutionary movements. The guest Speaker, Dr. Bal gave a comprehensive lecture on the origin, responsible factors and major impacts of Ghadar Movement. She elaborated that it was a revolutionary movement of the working class aimed at liberation of the country from the British rule. No doubt, the movement started on the foreign land but objective was to break the shackles of the British slavery. She highlighted that Ghadar Movement was the first secular movement which wanted India to be a democratic republic state. Earlier Dr. Sukhjit Singh, Incharge of the department briefly introduced the guest speaker. In the end, Prof. Jaspreet Kaur, Dean Arts and Humanities and Head, Department of Political Science passed the vote of thanks. On this occasion, the faculty of History department Dr. Jaswinder Singh, Prof. Sakshi, Dr. Harmandeep Singh, Prof. Amandeep Singh, Prof. Gursahib Singh, Prof. Gazal Sodhi and Prof. Manpreet Kaur and Prof Gurvel Singh Malhi of the Political Science Department were present.
