The Red Ribbon Club and Gender Champions Club, Khalsa College Amritsar organized ‘‘Seminar Cum Social Awareness Campaign’’ in Amritsar Sahit Utsav Pustak Mela held at Khalsa College Amritsar on 20th November, 2024. The Chief Guest of programme was Sh. Kulwant Singh Dhaliwal, Chairman and Global Ambassador, World Cancer Care society. The Programme was planned and executed under the guidance of Principal Dr. Taminder Singh Bhatia, Dr. Sawraj Kaur Nodal Officer (female) and Dr. Parminder Singh, Nodal Officer (male) of Gender Champions Club. During this programme, Gender Champion Club in collaboration with World Cancer Care Society organised One Day Free Cancer Checkup Camp in the college.
Sh. Kulwant Singh Dhaliwal addressed the audience regarding cancer awareness and talked about different types of cancer such as physical cancer, mental cancer. He highlighted that air pollution can lead to cancer by causing inflammation in lungs. He emphasised the importance of regular check-ups, diagnosis, treatment and follow up. He insisted educators to impart cancer awareness to future generations. He urged youth to raise voice against pollution and food adulteration which is a root cause of cancer leading India to become cancer capital of the world.
During this event, the students created awareness among society regarding social issues like Drug Abuse, Pollution, Gender Equality and HIV Aids through Awareness Rally by holding their posters in the book fair ground. To honour the creativity and hard work of participants, the prize distribution ceremony was held during the Book Fair. The certificates along with medals were distributed to the winners of the “Poster Making and Slogan Writing Competition” held on 12th November, 2024. Harmandeep Kaur (B.com.H-I) got first position, Indeep Kaur (B.A.-S.S. I) got second position, Taran Sabharwal (BPT 2nd Year) got third position, Taranpreet Kaur (BCA-I) and Gautam (BCA I) got consolation prizes.
Dr. Taminder Singh Bhatia (Principal) addressed the participants that the event was a great success, leaving a positive impact on all the participants. Dr. Atam Singh Randhawa (Head, Department of Punjabi) appreciated the efforts of the students.
The Nodal Officer (female) of Gender Champions Club, Dr. Sawraj Kaur welcomed the guests and motivated the students to instil in their minds the importance of such events which contribute to their holistic development. Sh. Kulwant Singh Dhaliwal congratulated the students for their enthusiastic participation. He stated that the competition provided students with an excellent platform to express their thoughts. Dr. Parminder Singh, Nodal Officer (male) of the Gender Champions club proposed a vote of thanks and highlighted that the club organises such events to acquaint the students with the awareness of social issues.
On this occasion, Dr. Deepak Devgan, Dr. Poonam Sharma, Dr. Ajay Sehgal, Dr. Heera Singh and Dr. Mini Salwan were present to motivate the students. Prof. Meenu Chopra and Dr. Harpreet Kaur Mehrok took over the charges for broadcasting the event. Gender Champions and representatives of Red Ribbon Club Kiranpreet Kaur, Pawndeep Singh, Gurasees Singh, Harmanjit Singh, Gurnoor Singh, Snigdha, Rishi Chopra, Ashima Nagpal, Shubh Sen, Sanjana, Tamanna, Sanjana, Gurbaz Singh, Kirti Arora, Prabhjot Kaur, Sharanjit Kaur and other members of club were also present.
