Students show immense interest in Skill Development courses of Khalsa College Amritsar (Dated 9.10.21)

Khalsa Global Reach Skill Development Center of Khalsa College Amritsar is providing specialized skill development courses for students, which enable them to explore their potentials on various skills and get better placements in the job sector or become an entrepreneur.

            The induction programme for the new batch of 100 students was held in the college hall on 07.10.2021. Students of English speaking and communication; Personality Development, Web Designing, Computerized Accounting, Food and Vegetable Processing, Acting, Dance, Bhangra and other skill development courses were present.

Speaking on this occasion, Principal Dr. Mehal Singh announced that the Khalsa College Amritsar, is committed to provide skill training to the students of the college and the youths of the adjoining areas. He shared that the college got immense response for these courses as these provide the required skills to students, which are essential in the present scenario. He said that Khalsa Global Reach Skill Development Center of Khalsa College Amritsar is a unique centre in the region that is catering to the skill development needs of the students. The building of the centre is constructed with the financial help provided by Khalsa Global Reach Foundation, USA, which works under the dynamic president ship of Dr. Gurvarinder Kaur and Dr. Bakshish Singh Sandhu ji.

He added, Skill development courses help the students to build confidence, prepare themselves for upcoming challenges and to get expertise in same or the other fields of choice. After completion of the course, the student can seek better jobs on the basis of acquired skills or find new opportunities in the job/business sectors.

Dr. Mehal Singh further said that now-a-days traditional courses are providing knowledge but not the skills sought by the industry. As a result, the students even after having distinction in their academics are not getting the required jobs. Students trained in a particular skill, on the other hand, have a lot of opportunities ahead. Moreover, these courses can be pursued along with the normal studies. He encouraged the students to do these courses very sincerely.

Dr. M.S. Batra, Director, Skill Development Centre welcomed the students joining the new batch of skill development courses. He shared that the students enrolled under any course in Skill Development Centre are given both theory and practical training necessary for that course. After completion of the course, the students get a certificate of completion. All courses are being taught by well trained and experienced faculty members. These courses help the students to learn new skills and also to get expertise in various skills. The students enrolled in different skill courses learn new skills in accordance with the demand of work. These courses have immense scope as they are providing training in a particular skill as per industry/job placement needs.

            Dr. Taminder Singh, Dean Academic Affairs of the College and Coordinator IQAC appreciated the efforts of Principal Dr. Mehal Singh and management of the college in establishing Skill Development centre in the campus. He added that the skill Development Courses run by the centre are providing in-depth knowledge and training to the students and students of the college and surrounding areas are greatly benefitted.

            The programme was attended by Dr. A. K. Kahlon, Dean Commerce faculty and, Head Department of Commerce and Business administration, Dr. Manbir Singh, Head Department of Food Science and Technology, Dr. S. S. Manto, Director Career Guidance, Prof Harbhajan Singh, Head Department of Computer Science, Prof. Jasmeet Kaur, Head, Department of Fashion Technology, Dr. Amit Anand, Dr. Ajay Sehgal, Dr. Gursharan Kaur, Dr.Sakshi, Prof Prabhjot Kaur, Prof. Amrinder Singh and other staff members.
