“Education is the only weapon in our hands that can change the world for the better and value-based education is the need of the hour to take India to newer heights”. This was stated by Governor Punjab Banwarilal Purohit while distributing the degrees to as many as 1626 students during the 116th Annual Convocation of historic Khalsa College here today.
Delivering his well-applauded convocational address, Governor Prohit said the world is full of struggles and only those properly equipped with education can face the challenges and emerge winners in life. He said this historical college not only provides the degree to the students but even the courage and confidence to stand against odds of times.
Encouraging the students for hard work and adopting the simple ways of living, he said there was no short cut to success and each milestone can be achieved only through dedication, determination and perseverance. “As you obtain the degree, which is a reward of several years of your hard work, do not forget to thank all those who have been a part of this phase of your life”, he asked the students saying the life without principle is nothing and values and spiritual ways of life make it more meaningful.
Governor Prohit was earlier extended a warm welcome on the heritage campus by Khalsa College Governing Council (KCGC) President Satyajit Singh Majithia, honourary secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina and Principal Dr.Mehal Singh. He further stated that the degree is not an end goal in itself but instead a part of the larger journey of life as a new phase of life begins. He inspired the students to follow the path of righteousness and to maintain the values which their elders have imbibed in them.
While praising the role of the College, he said, the historic institution has contributed immensely in making the students aware of their culture, history, language and traditions. While quoting the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi, he inspired the students to recognize their ability to transform thoughts into actions.
Earlier Majithia while welcoming him said Banwarilal has made significant contributions in political and social affairs in the country. He congratulated all the students on getting their degrees from him. While praising the hard work of the youngsters, he said students have strived hard for years to earn this degree. “The degree is not just a paper but an effort to move ahead in the journey of life”, said Majithia.
RMS Chhina in his speech encouraged the students to do more and more hard work as hard work makes the every difficult task of life much easier. He inspired the students to make targets and focus on those targets as the students for attaining degrees and medals. He thanked the Hon’ble Governor for accepting their invitation and sparing time for this function.
Principal Dr. Mehal Singh read the progress report of the College, citing the achievements of students in academics, cultural activities and sports. On this occasion, the two senior members of the KCGC Paramjit Singh Bal and Jatinder Singh Sachdev were honoured for their contributions to the society. The Research Award was bestowed upon Dr. Jaswinder Singh, Associate Professor Zoology and Best Teacher Award was given to Dr. Amit Anand, Associate Professor, Chemistry, during the function.
