K Kahlon (Dean, Head   and Programme Director) and Dr. Ajay Sehgal (Incharge, BSc.Hons. Travel & Tourism Sem-I).  The objective of the programme was to acquaint the students with the most unique reserves of India’s colonial history which is preserved at the Partition Museum at Town Hall Amritsar that is still quite underrated as a tourist spot. The museum was created by the Arts and Cultural Heritage Trust (TAACHT), is a part of the Heritage Street in Amritsar, which runs from the Golden Temple to the Town Hall.

Dr.Mehal Singh appreciated this effort of the Commerce Department as such historical tours will prove constructive for the students to gain knowledge about the history and culture of Punjab.  These historical placeshas collection of tales, memories, works of art, and artefacts that serve as a record of the period leading up to, during, and following the division of British India.

Dr. A. K Kahlon  inspired the students for this educational tour to Partition Museum, JallianwalaBagh which is a tribute to the victims of the bloodiest migration of the 20th century, it helps memorialize what continues to shape India, what schoolbooks are devoid of, and what Indian millennials are unaware of.

Dr. Ajay Sehgal highlighted that such tours are most significant for the students as they get opportunity to understand the antiquity of such historical places

The students visited the Partition museum and learned how the division in 1947 impacted the life of common man. They visited JallianwalaBagh and understand the circumstances of the JallianwalaBagh massacre which took place on 13 April 1919 when troops of the British Indian Army under the command of Colonel Reginald Dyer fired rifles into a crowd of Indians, who had gathered in JallianwalaBagh. Then, the students visited the Golden temple which  is a symbol of equality, brotherhood, and spirituality. It is considered as the spiritual and cultural center of the Sikh community. The students enjoyed seeing history recordings, listening to soundscapes in each gallery, reading letters from refugees, viewing official papers, and viewing other artworks in Partition Museum among other fascinating experiences.

Prof. Hari Singh and Prof. Parul Sharma accompanied the students in this tour.
